Marvel vs DC Comics

Earlier, I was watching Guardians of the Galaxy and I’ve watched that movie over three times now. I’m still not bored of it, if anything it gets even better. It is definitely the best movie by far. So it got me thinking how Marvel has come up with so many amazing movies and I am saddened to say this because I am a die hard DC comics fan,but they haven’t come up with anything to top the Marvel movie franchise just yet. I do love the Christian Bale Batman movies. They are amazing! I think the Green Lantern movie was good, I liked it a lot. Ryan Reynolds did a really good job. It was just the type of movie that you would watch maybe once or twice and then its onto another. It just didn’t really stay with you, but DC has a lot of good stuff in store for us. I am very excited yet curious to see Batman vs Superman coming out in 2016!

Starting with movies of course Marvel has won this round!

Comic books? I have to give that to DC Comics. (and yes this is my biased opinion :p)

DC has a much darker tone to it. I love the Avengers and I’ve tried to read the comics but I can’t. I lose interest really fast when it comes to that. I like DC comics better because there are so many different story lines and universes. The characters are awesome and the stories behind them are intense. I will always find a good comic book whenever I want to read another one. My favorites are basically anything to do with Batman; excluding {Robin, Batwoman, Batgirl, and Batwing}; Catwoman, Nightwing a.k.a Richard Grayson, The Flash, Gotham Academy, and a bunch more. They always keep it interesting.

Now for TV shows, I think its a draw!

Marvel has Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, and they have a new series coming out on Netflix: Daredevil.

DC has The Flash, Arrow, Gotham, and Constantine (which I haven’t seen yet)

They are both the best at making TV shows! I watch them religiously 🙂 Each show has so many jaw dropping moments that no one expected. It keeps you on your feet and leaves you wanting more. Keep making TV shows @Marvel and @DCcomics !

Comic Books To Look For…

Last year, I went to Stan Lee’s Comikaze and met amazing writers and artists. It was a really cool experience to see how they got started and see the process of how they got to where they are now. I read their work that very day! It was so good, the plots were twisted, the art jumped out at you, and the writing made you wish you had the next issue in your hand.

Hex11 by Lisa K. Weber & Kelly Sue Milano – This world is a futuristic take on how humans can perform magic. Elanor, a young witch who gets put in to The Hex for performing magic without registration. Now she seeks out training and guidance by one of the most powerful witches within The Hex. The art and how it portrays the concept of magic almost reminds me of technology. Check them at: Hexcomix.com.

Cloaks by David Henry, Caleb Monroe, and Mariano Navarro – A modern day Robin Hood gives back to the poor by a touch a magic…or should I say magic tricks. An illusionist named Adam gets recruited by an organization called CLOAKS for his skills to track down some mysterious people. Some secrets will be uncovered and its going to be an exciting journey filled with the art of deception.

The Untamed by Sebastian A. Jones and Peter Bergting – A man makes a deal with the devil to be brought back for only seven days to get revenge on the people that murdered his family and himself. This thriller has such extravagant art that makes it look alive, almost like a painting. The story is very interesting and I am excited to find out what happens next.

Gotham Academy by Becky Cloonan, Brenden Fletcher, Karl Kerschl, Msassyk, & Serge LaPointe – Now this series, I found at my local comic book store called House of Secrets. Being a Batman fan I was really excited to see a new approach to Gotham. This series is all about what goes on in Gotham Academy and a girl named, Olive Silverlock. With appearances from Bruce Wayne and Olive’s forgotten summer, there are some crazy secrets that get uncovered by Olive and her friends. Its exciting and absolutely fun. I love this series.

The Best Graphic Novels

I see graphic novels as movies. With the art, you can see the scene right there in that moment on paper. That’s also why i love comic books too. These are some of my absolute favorites:
Batman: The Black Mirror by Scott Snyder, Jock, & Franceso Francavilla – This book was interesting to read, because it had three different story lines happening at once; just like a movie where it would transition into another scene. It was beautifully drawn and written. By the end, the stories lined up perfectly. It added a darker tone to Batman/Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Gordon.
The Wicked + The Divine: The Faust Act by Gillen McKelvie and Wilson Cowles – This is an on going comic series. It brings in the myths of Gods and humans are among each other. The twist is that the Gods die every two years and then are reborn every twelve years. Its a modern fantasy.
Hexed by Michael Alan Nelson, Emma Rios, & Cris Peter – Just like The Wicked + The Divine this was also a collection of the first couple of issues. Hexed brings the mystical/magical realm into our own. The supernatural heroine’s name is Luci Jennifer Inacio Das Neves or “Lucifer” for short. She has a humor and snarky personality that makes her badass. Luci has to go through some crazy obstacles while she is hexed to save people she actually cares about, but she would never admit. Boom! Studios have remade this series and it looks epic. I am currently reading them and the art is different and beautiful. The story is still the same but you get introduced to some new faces and new adventures.
Will O’ the Wisp by Tom Hammock and Megan Hutchison – An amazing dark tale about a girl named Aurora Grimeon, who moves away to live with her grandfather after her parents death. She meets some the residents that live under the strange rules of Hoodoo magic. Mysterious things begin to happen and Aurora goes digging in secrets that should have been kept hidden. In the story, you learn about the world that they live in and the history is astonishing. It is very creative and the art has a gothic and dreary tone but its alive and vibrant at the same time.
Hacktivist by Alyssa Milano, Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Marcus To, & Ian Herring – Where a networking company and the largest hacking collective in the world are one in the same. Ed Hiccox and Nate Graft are co-founders of YourLife and the infamous “.sve_Urs3lf.” They are faced with a challenge to chose between what they think is right or their valued friendship. My favorite thing about this book was the characters. It is absolutely amazing how they portrayed Ed and Nate. Hiccox plans everything down to the last second. He is very accurate and realistic. As Graft is more irrational and much more outgoing. Its amazing to see them grow through the story. Its filled with a lot of excitement!
Amulet Series by Kazu Kibuishi – This has got to be my all time favorite. The art is incredible and the story is magical and filled with wonder. Emily Naven, and their mother move away after a tragic accident. They move into their uncle’s vacant house but come to find out it has a lot of secrets hidden beneath the walls. Throughout the series, Naven and Emily have interesting encounters with inventions by the late Silas Charon. Its filled with jaw dropping cliff hangers, once you are done with the first two you can’t put the rest done. There are currently 6 books, but they are in the making of the last and final one and I am definitely excited for it and sad that it will be over.

Hope you check them out! And if you do let me know what you think 🙂
